How To Save Your Digital Camera Battery For Longer Use
As an owner of a digital camera, your single most expense is probably in maintaining your digital camera batteries. Although this could well be your biggest expense, there are things you can do to increase the length of time your batteries stay charged. But before we jump into the details, let us start with the three biggest sources of power drain.
The LCD screen is one of the major sources of power drain in your digital camera. You can better turn the feature off unless you really feel the need for it. Using the camera’s viewfinder will conserve power. Another big power drain is the flash. Perhaps you can avoid using e flash and instead depend on natural lighting to take your photos as and when it is possible. Of course, when you absolutely need the flash, you can’t avoid it.
Another major source of power drain is the use of zoom. It takes more power zooming in and out than it does keeping your zoom at a steady place. Try to find a setting you like and sticking with it as much as possible.
There are some other things also you can do to make your battery last longer:
- Keep the camera on Power Saving mode, or simply switch off your camera when you're not using it.
- Keep your camera and batteries warm in your jacket, particularly in cold weather, until you are ready to use them. The cold is a major drain of battery charge. Store batteries in a cool, dry location away from sunlight and other heat sources.
- Avoid or use playback function of your digital camera sparingly. While taking a picture you can probably decide whether to keep the picture or delete it later . Once decided so, you can avoid reviewing it until the pictures are downloaded to your computer.
- Using the AC adapter is one way to keep your battery stay longer. Most digital cameras have an adapter that allows you to plug directly into a power point. If you are not required to move around a lot and are near an outlet, you can use the AC adapter, which will increase the life of your batteries.
Despite all these steps, needing to buy more or recharge your battery is something you will not be able to avoid completely. However, these steps will help you significantly to delay the purchase or recharge of batteries to some extent.
